Are you ready to discover your college program?

If you are looking for a degree program in a Christian setting with more structure, the Baptist College of Florida might be a good school for you to investigate. The school was founded in 1943 and some of its first students were WWII veterans and six Seminole Indians, among which was the great-grandson of Osceola. The small, private college is affiliated with the Southern Baptist Church. The school has an urgency to reach out and is expanding its influence through distance learning and international studies. The original mission of the college was to train people for missions work; that goal is still true except that, with the new global emphasis, it has become a mission to train people for diverse types of service wherever God may call them. Almost all of the classes at the Baptist College of Florida have fewer than twenty students; the student-to-faculty ratio is 10:1. The school offers one graduate degree program and nine undergraduate programs.

If you are seeking admission as a graduate student, you must complete the application and submit it, along with your application fee, to the school. You must also provide a personal recommendation and show evidence of your money management skills and responsibility. Tuition and Financial Aid

Tuition at the Baptist College of Florida is $320 per credit hour for full-time traditional undergraduate students. If you want to audit a class, you will pay half-tuition. Book costs are estimated at $475 each semester. Housing averages $2,069 a semester and a 10-per-week meal plan costs $1,861. There is a $100 housing deposit which is paid with the application. Tuition for distance learning students is $200 per credit hour. There are additional fees related to student activities and some that are based on programs of study. You will also need to budget for personal expenses. Paying for college can be difficult.

If you need assistance, you should complete a FAFSA form as soon as possible. FAFSA, or the federal student assistance program, uses information you provide about your family’s finances, including income and necessary expenses, to calculate your anticipated contribution to the cost of your education at the Baptist College of Florida. That amount, subtracted from the actual cost is termed your “financial need.” The FAFSA will approve you for the programs for which you qualify, including the Pell Grant, the SEOG Grant, loans and work-study. Your awards letter will arrive in approximately two weeks with the award programs and the amounts for which you qualified. After receiving that notification, you should begin applying for other grants and scholarships. The Baptist College of Florida offers The Florida Student Assistance Grant, The Florida Resident Grant and the Florida Ministerial Scholarship and the Florida Bright Futures Scholarship, which is given to promising high school seniors. There is also assistance available for veterans.

You will find many other scholarships and grants through an Internet search. Some private individuals award memorial and other scholarships, corporations often give scholarships and grants, and service organizations and niche organizations offer financial assistance. You might also consider a student loan, which is a special low-interest loan that does not need to be repaid until you graduate and get a job. In addition, you may have qualified for work-study programs. The last resort, and one that is not advised, is taking out regular loans or putting your expenses on a credit card. Most scholarships and grants are only available to underclassmen, and especially to first-year students. There are, however, some scholarships, especially corporation-and-profession-sponsored funding, available to graduate students. The main source of financial assistance for graduate students is still the student loan.

Online Degrees Available

The Baptist College of Florida has an online campus which offers several programs. Unlike many online degree programs, however, these have a definite beginning and ending schedule. Although you may certainly work when you want to, you must complete assignments, do readings and participate in online forums within a structured time. The programs are not self-paced. This may be a benefit for those with little or no experience with online learning and who do not budget their time well. All online students must complete a week-long technology orientation course.

One of the degrees offered in the online campus is the Bachelor of Arts in Christian Counseling. This is a 120 credit-hour program that includes a general liberal arts portion after which you complete 33 semester hours in Biblical foundation courses like: hermeneutics, courses on the Old and New Testaments and Christian doctrine. There are 42 semester hours of courses in counseling and nine in electives. All students receive a computing guide to help them navigate the college online managerial software system. If you want to earn your degree in Christian counseling online at this college, you will need to schedule your courses with an advisor because they are offered on a rotation basis, which means that all classes are not always available. Books for all courses are available through the virtual bookstore. This small college, with its structure and Christian setting, may be just the setting in which you can flourish while earning your degree at the Baptist College of Florida.
