Faulkner University, a Christian liberal arts private university, is based in Montgomery, Alabama. Set on a small campus, the school encourages students to form lifelong friendships and get involved. With over 30 student organizations, 20 intramural and 10 intercollegiate sports teams, and a wide variety of exercise facilities, dining venues and commons areas, the school emphasizes academics as well as the student experience in a Christian environment.

Founded in 1942 as Montgomery Bible College, the university still puts a focus on faith and spirituality with daily chapel, late-night devotionals, and Bible classes. Faulkner is the home to five different colleges: the Harris College of Business and Executive Education, the Alabama Christian College of Arts and Science, the College of Education, the V.P. Black College of Biblical Studies, and the Thomas Goode Jones School of Law. In addition, the university offers a variety of programs to assist the adult learners who are studying for a degree while maintaining a career. Adult students can learn online or take classes at the school’s extended campuses in Huntsville, Mobile, or Birmingham, as well as at community colleges and other locations throughout Alabama.

Faulkner University Accreditation Details

Faulkner University holds accreditation by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and School. This accreditation allows them to award associate, baccalaureate, master and doctorate degrees.

The university’s legal studies program, which is offered on the main campus in Montgomery, is approved by the American Bar Association’s Standing Committee on Paralegals.

Faulkner University’s Thomas Goode Jones School of Law is a fully accredited member of the American Bar Association (ABA), and its graduates are eligible to sit for the bar exam in any state in which they choose to practice.

Faulkner University Application Requirements

There are various admission requirements for undergraduate students wishing to attend Faulkner University. Regular adult undergraduates must be high school grads or have received a GED with a minimum sub-score of 350 or a composite score of 450 or higher. They must also have graduated less than five years prior to admission and have an ACT composite score of 18 or higher or 24 semester hours of transferable credit.

Those seeking a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA), Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (BSB), or Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice (BCJ) must have a minimum cumulative GPA of at least 2.0 on all work from previous accredited colleges or universities and complete all general education coursework. Students must be at least 23 years of age.

Students seeking a Bachelor of Science in Human Resource Management (HRM) must have at least a 2.0 cumulative GPA on all previous college work and must complete at least 60 of the 72 hours of core course work including math and English Comp I and II. These students must be a minimum of 23 years old.

Students applying for the Masters of Counseling program must present an official transcript from each college or university previously attended and have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75 from their undergraduate work. They must also have a passing score on the MAT or GRE. This requirement is waived if the student has an undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or higher.

Students must also submit a goal statement specifying their goals as a counselor or other professional in the field. This statement must be approximately 400 words and include how Faulkner University fits in with these goals. Included must be a description of previous employment and how this will apply to their graduate learning.

Masters of Counseling students must also have three recommendations from professionals who are unrelated to them.

Tuition and Financial Aid

Tuition and fees at the university are $18,750 per year and $31,530 per year with room, board and other fees.

Tuition for the Thomas Goode Jones College of Law is $37,000 per year.

In the 2015-16 school year, the university helped 272 incoming freshmen with financial aid. This included an average of $10,530 per student in average grant aid and $6,380 per student in average loan aid.

Faulkner University also offers a 50 percent reduction in tuition for full-time law enforcement, EMS, and fire department personnel in the state of Alabama.

The college also offers a variety of scholarships based on academics, church affiliation, and other accomplishments.

Psychology and Counseling at Faulkner University
