One of the online degrees offered at Johnson University is Pastoral Care and Counseling. As in other degrees, the major is Bible. There are 52 credits in the arts and sciences, twenty-seven in the Bible and Theology major and 30 in the pastoral care and counseling concentration, along with 11 electives. The total credit hours for this degree are 120, which is the same as the traditional degree except that they are arranged differently. One of the required liberal arts classes, world languages, is not available online and must be taken on campus. Counseling programs require a student background check. A sample of courses you will take with this degree program includes: Encountering Cultures, Biblical Teaching and Prophecy, Introduction to Counseling Ministry, Family Services and Conflict and Community in Ministry. The school also requires professional internships so that students may put their theoretical learning into hands-on practice. About Johnson University
Johnson University has three campuses and a virtual campus; the Tennessee campus is the original location of the school. The home campus has an enrollment of less than 800 students. The student-to-faculty ratio is 16:1. This private, four-year college was founded in 1893 as The School of the Evangelist. Its name was changed to Johnson Bible College in the early 1900s and it only became Johnson University in 2011. It offers associate through doctoral degrees through the traditional campus, online and in hybrid formats. All students take a general liberal arts core of classes, then a Biblical core and then the concentration, but the major for all students is Bible. There is also an honors program that has majors in history, English and Apologetics, and a graduate school. Johnson University offers one doctoral-level program: Leadership Studies. Johnson University Application Requirements
There is an online application for all programs at Johnson University. Students must complete the form and submit it with their $35 non-refundable fee and all required documents. The first of these documents is a completed and signed “Commitment to the Johnson Lifestyle.” Undergraduate students must also write a personal essay of 500 to 1,000 words including their reason for applying to the school, their Christian commitment, previous church involvement and their goals. These should be sent to the school along with official ACT or SAT scores and high school transcripts, a government-issued photo ID and two letters of reference, one from a pastor and one from an educator or an employer. Graduate application requirements are similar except that the application fee is $50 and graduate students must submit three letters of reference, one from a pastor, one from an educator and one from an employer. The graduate essay must be two or three pages and include their reasons for pursuing the degree they want to study.
Tuition and Financial Aid
Tuition at Johnson University varies by program, but similar degree levels have similar costs. For instance, The Bachelor of Arts/ Bachelor of Science in Cultural Studies has tuition of $10, 440 per year. That averages out to about $290 per credit hour.
