Limestone College is an accredited Christian college based in Gaffney, South Carolina. The school offers a non-denominational Christian and liberal arts education. Limestone College Application Requirements

Incoming students to Limestone College are required to submit their high school transcript as well as their SAT or ACT scores to apply for an undergraduate program. The requirements for the graduate school is a bit different, however. To apply for a graduate program at Limestone College, candidates must submit the following:

Bachelor of Arts in Psychology

The successful completion of a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology degree will provide students with a general and well-rounded education in the field of non-clinical psychology. The degree teaches students basic psychological principles as well as methods to prepare them for an eventual career in a non-licensed setting. Students are required to fulfill the general education requirements of this program as well as complete the major requirements which include:

• Elementary Statistics - This class will teach students about data and how to use the appropriate technology to represent and analyze data.
• Introduction to Psychology - This class presents the major areas of study in psychology, which include: scientific psychology, psycho-physiological processes, psychopathology, personal development and sociocultural determinants of behavior.
• Research Methods in Psychology - This class offers an introduction to potential experimental research methods in psychology along with the appropriate statistical concepts that they correspond to. Students will study ethical considerations in research, hypothesis testing, scientific method, research techniques, drawing inferences through data analysis, observational survey and more.
• Contemporary Issues in Psychology - This course is in seminar form and is student-led. In this class, students will both lead and participate in a discussion of current themes or issues in psychology.

Students in this program will also be required to take 15 credit hours of electives in psychology. This program is designed as a pathway to lead students into a career in human services. Possible career paths include non-licensed school counselor, social services director, parole officer, mental health counselor, psychologist or psychiatric technician. Some of the specializations in this degree are pathways to begin the certification process with the American Board of Professional Psychology though the degree itself does not qualify students for licensure.

Bachelor of Science in Psychology

This degree provides a broad education into the whole of psychology without a specialization. Students will learn about the major aspects of the discipline of psychology including theories and techniques used in practice. This degree is not geared for licensure, but it can be a pathway to further education to attain a certification from the American Board of Professional Psychology. After completing all of the general education requirements for the degree, students will complete the following courses to satisfy the psychology major:

• Elementary Statistics - This course provides students with the tools they need to produce and analyze data throughout their research in psychology.
• Introduction to Psychology - This class offers a broad introduction to the different areas of psychology including the scientific process, psychopathology and personality development.
• Health Psychology - This course examines the effects of mental health, lifestyle behavior and physical health. Students will be required to examine their own behaviors against current research on effects of behavior on health.
• Learning and Memory - This course explores the current science of human memory and the way that humans learn.
• Behavior Disorders - This course expands upon the Introduction to Psychology course and focuses on both the treatment and diagnosis of mental disorders.
• Cognitive Psychology - This course surveys the current methods and theories of cognitive psychology with an emphasis on attention and memory, language, creativity, problem-solving and information-processing.
• Biopsychology - This course deals with a relatively new science that discusses both the brain and the systems of the brain.
• Research Methods in Psychology - This course will include learning about tools of research as well as ethical implications of research projects.
• Experimental Thesis - Students are required to create and present a research project.
• Evolutionary Psychology - This class will explore cultural issues across the human past. These issues might include aggression, sexual attraction and reproductive strategies. This course relies on interdisciplinary research from behavioral ecology, anthropology and comparative psychology.
• Contemporary Issues in Psychology - This class is a student-led seminar in which students will lead and discuss the major issues and current trends in psychology with their peers.

This degree is designed to send students into the professional psychology field, and job prospects include human services, school counselor, parole officer, substance abuse counselor, psychiatric technician. Students may also pursue further education as well as a pathway to licensure through this program.
