Post University began in 1890 as the Matoon Shorthand School providing education in such subjects as shorthand, typing, bookkeeping and business writing in rented space in downtown Waterbury, Connecticut. In 1893, the name of the school was changed to Bliss & Harrington’s Business College and School of Shorthand. Harry C. Post moved to Waterbury in 1896 to become the principal of the school and purchased it less than a year later, becoming president of the college. He renamed it Waterbury Business College, although it was commonly called Post’s Waterbury Business College.
In 1931, the school was officially named Post College and broadened its mission in 1939 to become Post Junior College of Commerce. Dr. Harold B. Post became President in 1960 and the current day campus opened on Country Club Road in 1965. An off-campus site was established in 1970 in Meriden, Connecticut. In 1976, Post College offered the first accelerated degrees designed for Vietnam veterans that allowed those returning from the war to combine life and work experience with education to provide them with better chances of employment.
In 1990, the college affiliated with Teikyo University in Japan, becoming Teikyo Post University. New programs were initiated and additional properties obtained to further grow the college. In 1996, Post began offering online degree programs and enrollment in the online programs grew rapidly. Control of the school was transferred to a new Board of Trustees in 2004 and it was renamed Post University.
Today, Post University offers high quality education and exceptional support services in both a traditional classroom setting and for those students with work or family obligations that require them to use the online campus.

Post University is accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges. More than 200 colleges are regionally accredited by the organization in New England States and it is one of six organizations recognized by the United States Department of Education as well as the Council on Higher Education as reliable authorities on the quality of institutes of higher education. In addition, almost all degree programs offered through the Malcolm Baldrige School of Business at Post University is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs.

Post University Application Requirements
Freshmen undergraduate admission requires students to complete an application through the Office of Admissions. If the student applies online, there is no application fee but paper applications require payment of a non-refundable fee. Students must provide official transcripts from their high school and must provide official SAT or ACT scores as well. Students must provide a letter of recommendation and must arrange for an interview with an Undergraduate Adviser. If an in-person interview is not possible, the student may arrange for a phone interview.
Students transferring from another college or university may transfer up to 90 credits towards a bachelor’s degree. Post University also allows students to use military and life experience for some college credits. There is no fee for a credit transfer evaluation at Post University. Students must provide transcripts from every college or university attended.
Online undergraduate students may begin taking classes while they are completing the admissions process. Students may complete up to 12 credits prior to completing the application requirements. Students may not matriculate and they are not eligible for financial aid until the process is complete, however. Students must provide a copy of their official transcript and must have a cumulative GPA of at least 2.0. Students with a GPA lower than 2.0 must submit an admissions essay.
Online graduate students must complete an application and provide official transcripts that indicate he awarding of an undergraduate degree. Students must also provide two letters of recommendation that describe the student’s ability to complete graduate work. Students must have an undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or above. In addition, the student must have between one and five years depending on the degree program chosen. A current resume is also required.
Post University Tuition and Financial Aid
Full-time on campus tuition at Post University is $26,250 per year. Online undergraduate tuition is $570 per credit hour for most programs. The Associate of Science in Early Childhood Education and the Bachelor of Science in Child Studies is $505 per credit hour. Graduate tuition for online classes ranges from $570 per credit hour to $730 per credit hour.
Financial aid is available in the form of loans, scholarships and payment plans. Students may be eligible for federal financial aid but must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) in order to qualify. When applying for admission, students should indicate whether they will apply for financial aid. Students must demonstrate satisfactory academic progress in order to continue to receive aid.

The Master of Science in Human Services with a focus on Alcohol and Drug Counseling is designed for those who wish to help those suffering from addiction as well as the loved ones who are helping them battle substance abuse. Students learn to understand the complex issues regarding substance abuse including multicultural and ethnic influences. Students are able to expand their background in biological, psychological and sociological effects of substance abuse on families, individuals, the community and society. Students learn the most current assessment, diagnosis and treatment tools available in the field of addiction. These tools include individual, group, self-help and psychopharmacology methods to help people overcome substance abuse. The program is an interactive online course of study with courses lasting eight weeks. It is not a licensure program so students should research the requirements in their state to become a licensed drug and alcohol counselor.
