Albertus Magnus College is a small liberal arts college in New Haven, Connecticut. It emphasizes a liberal arts education and has an affiliation with the Roman Catholic Church. The Dominican Sisters of St. Mary of the Springs established the college in 1925 and offered classes out of a former mansion. As a college strictly for women, it focused on preparing women and instilling in them strong leadership skills. As the college grew, it acquired nearby land and now covers approximately 50 acres. The college also changed its admissions policy to accept men in the 1980s and spent the last few decades constructing more modern buildings on its campus.
Though the college still accepts men, it has more female students than males. Males represent just 35% of its total student body. Albertus Magnus College Application Requirements
When applying to Albertus Magnus College, you have two options as an undergrad. You can use the application that is available on the admissions home page, or you can use the Common Application. The Common Application requires that students create an account, but you can then use that account to share information across multiple applications, which helps you apply to more than one college faster. There is an application fee of $35 that is nonrefundable and due at the time that you submit your application. You will also need to give the college a high school transcript that includes the grades you received in the first semester of your senior year and an official college entrance exam score. The college accepts both ACT and SAT scores. Other requirements include a letter of recommendation from a counselor or teacher and a personal essay. Albertus Magnus College lets you write this essay on any topic of your choosing.
If you are a prospective graduate student, you must use the graduate application and pay the nonrefundable application fee. The college will only accept those who have a bachelor's degree or those who are on track to complete a degree before starting graduate school, and that degree must come from an accredited college or university. You will also need to submit a transcript that shows you maintained an undergrad GPA of 2.8 or higher and submit two letters of recommendation. Once you receive an acceptance letter, Albertus Magnus College will ask for a $350 deposit to hold your place for the coming year, and this deposit rises to $400 for those who want to live in one of its residence halls. The estimated cost for incoming students is around $31,500 a year. This includes all fees and the cost of taking a full course load in the fall and spring semesters. Those who do not have insurance must pay around $2,000 for medical coverage. Room and board fees charged by the college come in at around $13,000 a year. Graduate students pay a rate based on the number of classes rather than the number of credits. Albertus Magnus College offers both a Master in Art Therapy program and a Master in Clinical Counseling program. The clinical counseling program allows students to pick a concentration in either mental health or addiction counseling. You'll take at least five courses from within your concentration as well as 42 credits or more of required courses.
