California State University Northridge offers a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology that provides students with a strong academic background in psychology. Students also develop professional competence and gain an understanding of the importance of research in the industry. Clinical Psychology
The Clinical Psychology program at California State University Northridge is designed for those who wish to provide psychological services in organizational and provisional settings. The emphasis is not on a private-practice model. The program is a graduate degree with a predominant training model for clinical psychologists using a scientist-practitioner approach. Students conduct research in the scientific study of behavioral principles as well as how to apply psychological theories and methods in the area of human services. It requires 48-credit hours that includes extensive training in assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of psychological disorders. Students are required to complete a thesis and practicum for the program. Courses required include:

About California State University Northridge
In July 1958, the Valley Campus separated from Los Angeles State college, becoming San Fernando Valley State College. By September of that same year, enrollment reached 2,525. By 1968, enrollment had grown to 15,600. In 1971, an earthquake struck the San Fernando Valley, damaging several buildings on campus. In June 1971, the school became known as California State University Northridge.
Today, enrollment at California State University Northridge is 38,310.
California State University Northridge Accreditation Details
California State University Northridge is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges. This accreditation indicates that the school meets or exceeds criteria set forth by the Association that indicates students are receiving a high-quality education. In addition, accreditation indicates that the school has the resources to achieve its goals and objectives. Programs in the Department of Psychology are accredited by the Behavior Analyst Certification Board. Programs throughout the school are also accredited by industry-specific agencies and associations.
California State University Northridge Application Requirements
Undergraduate students who have not earned college credit after high school are admitted as freshmen. Applicants must complete an application and provide official high school transcripts as well as official ACT or SAT scores.
Transfer students must have at least 60 transferable college credits in order to be admitted. They must submit official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended. Some programs have higher GPA requirements. Applicants are asked to speak to an adviser before applying.
Students who wish to enter the graduate Psychology major at the school must hold a bachelor’s degree in Psychology. Students who did not major in Psychology must discuss prerequisites with an adviser before applying. Students must have an undergraduate GPA of 3.0 and official GRE scores must be provided. Students must provide official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended. Three letters of recommendation are also required as well as a personal statement.
California State University Northridge Tuition and Financial Aid
Full-time undergraduate tuition is $6,888 per year while graduate tuition for post-baccalaureate degrees is $8,322 per year. Graduate Business Professional degrees are $13,182 per year and the Educational Doctorate is $12,984 per year. The Doctor of Physical Therapy program is $18,342 per year.
Financial aid is available in the form of grants and scholarships which are considered gift aid and do not need to be repaid after graduation. Students may qualify for subsidized and unsubsidized loans as well, but it is important to remember that loans must be repaid after graduation. Students may qualify for federal work-study programs and California State University Northridge also accepts employer tuition along with military and veteran benefits.
In order to qualify for aid, students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and it must be renewed each year. All students who receive assistance must meet satisfactory academic progress. This means they must meet a satisfactory pass rate and maintain a satisfactory GPA. Students must also be attending at least part-time in order to qualify for financial aid.
