Part of Colorado State University, which was established in 1870 as the Colorado Agricultural College, the Global Campus began in 2007 with a $12 million loan from the CSU Board of Governors. The Global Campus was created in an effort to provide adult learners in Colorado and other states the ability to achieve their higher education goals and was originally known as CSU-Colorado.

The campus opened in 2008 as a separate campus of the CSU system with the same rights as their main campus and CSU-Pueblo. In 2009, the campus became a legally sanctioned independent university when Governor Ritter signed a law declaring the Global Campus as an online university that is part of the CSU system. It was the first statutorily-defined 100 percent online public university in the country.

CSU-Global Campus began with 200 students and has grown to an enrollment of 6,500 and more than 1,300 students have graduated from programs through the online school. The school is designed for adult professional students who are unable to attend higher education courses in a traditional setting.

Colorado State University – Global Campus Accreditation Details

CSU-Global Campus is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission. In addition, business programs at the university are accredited by the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs. The school also has many state accreditations so that programs offered online in those states meet the accreditation requirements of those agencies.

Colorado State University – Global Campus Application Requirements

The first step in the admissions process at CSU-Global Campus is to talk to an admissions counselor in order for students to select a program that meets their needs. There is an online application and fee that must be submitted. Students must provide transcripts from all colleges and universities attended. Once admitted, the Student Support Team works with the student through orientation and to help them understand the degree plan.

Graduate students must also submit transcripts from all colleges and universities attended and work with a Student Support Advisor to determine the right program.

In addition, a Student Support Specialist will help students determine that they have the proper technology to access courses through the online system.

Colorado State University – Global Campus Tuition and Financial Aid

Undergraduate tuition is $350 per credit hour and graduate tuition is $500 per credit hour. The average cost for a standard 36-hour graduate degree is $18,000 while an undergraduate degree has a total cost average of between $10,500 and $31,500, depending on transfer credits.

Active duty service members with current orders, military spouses, military dependents and veterans are offered a 10 percent discount on tuition. In addition, CSU-Global accepts military benefits that cover tuition.

CSU-Global accepts employer funded tuition and students may be eligible to defer payment until 30 days after the end of each term. CSU-Global can also directly bill employers for tuition.

CSU-Global Campus offers financial aid to qualified students. Financial aid is available through scholarships, grants, loans and other programs. Students may qualify for private loans, grants and scholarships as well. In order to qualify for financial aid, students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

Bachelor of Science in Human Services

The Bachelor of Science in Human Services degree at CSU-Global Campus helps student gain an understanding of the various services available in a community, whether for childcare, mental health, elderly support or assistance for those with disabilities. The program prepares students to work in a wide variety of social fields using skills and knowledge regarding individuals, families, groups and organizations. Students learn about human development, intervention, case management and human services administration.

Students may specialize their degree with concentrations by adding five upper-division courses in order to tailor their educational experience. Specializations include:

The program is designed to provide students with practical knowledge in the human service field with 15 three-credit core courses that are part of a 120-credit bachelor’s degree. In addition to liberal arts courses, students must successfully complete:

The practicum course is a hands-on preparatory course the prepares students for the Capstone project. Students must currently be working or volunteer in a human services capacity. They must propose and implement a project that integrates theory into practice. Fingerprinting and a criminal background check must be complete before taking the course. The course is not available in Delaware, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Mexico, New York, Ohio, Texas, Washington DC or West Virginia. Students who live in those states must take the seminar course.

Courses are offered in an accelerated 8-week format with classes offered throughout the year, not just on a semester basis. The program is designed for working adults who have other obligations besides school. All classes are offered in an online format.

As part of the Colorado State University system, CSU-Global Campus has the benefit of more than 100 years of experience in higher education. Students are provided an online education that is equal to the education provided to students who take traditional brick-and-mortar classes. However, Colorado State University Global Campus offers students who have family, work and social obligations that prevent them from attending traditional classrooms the ability to achieve their higher education goals.
