The school suffered a major tragedy in 1970 when Southern Airline Flight 932 crashed while on descent into Huntington Airport in West Virginia after leaving Kinston, North Carolina. An investigation found that the flight descended below the minimum descent attitude due to poor weather conditions, causing it to strike trees on a hillside before crashing and burning. In the crash, 75 people died, including nearly the entire Marshall University football team, coaches, flight crew, fans and supporters. Memorial Fountain was erected in the heart of the campus in memory of the November 1970 plane crash.
Today, there are almost 13,400 students enrolled at Marshall University. The school offers 57 undergraduate, 54 graduate and five specialist or professional degree programs.

Marshall University Application Requirements
Freshmen who wish to attend Marshall University must have a high school diploma with an overall GPA of 2.0. They must also have a composite score of at least 19 on the ACT or 900 on the SAT or an overall GPA of 3.0 and a composite score of 16 on the ACT or 770 on the SAT. Students must submit a completed application for admission and the applicable application fee. They must also provide an official transcript that shows the graduation date and any college transcripts for all colleges and universities attended.
Students who have earned less than 30 semester hours of college credit must meet current freshmen admission requirements. Students who have earned 12 or more college-level semester hours and completed all prerequisite courses for English and math with a 2.0 college GPA. Students must complete an application and pay the application fee. Students must submit copies of transcripts from all colleges or universities attended.
Marshall University Tuition and Financial Aid
Full-time undergraduate tuition at Marshall University is $3,407 per semester for West Virginia residents and $7,801 for non-residents. Metro residents pay $5,979. Graduate tuition is $3,534 per semester for residents, $8,529 for non-residents and $6,382 for metro residents.
Financial aid is available in the form of grants, scholarships, loans and work-study programs. Financial aid is available to both full- and part-time students. Marshall University awards more than $144 million in financial aid each year. Students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) in order to be eligible for aid at Marshall.

The undergraduate degree in Psychology at Marshall University provides students with an understanding of human cognition, affect, behavior and relationships. Students are able to understand, predict and influence behavior with research into social, psychological, developmental, cognitive and emotional factors.
