Pennsylvania State University World Campus is the distance learning campus for the university, established in 1998. However, distance learning is not new to Penn State as they began offering correspondence courses as early as 1892. When they developed the World Campus in 1998, they were one of the first major accredited universities to provide such an education.

World Campus courses at Penn State are the same academically challenging courses taught on campus but offered in a flexible format that allows students to learn when it is convenient for them. Degrees offered at the World Campus are the same as the degrees awarded at all campuses of Penn State.

Penn State is a world-renowned institution and their World Campus continues that tradition of excellence with the same faculty teaching courses online as teach in the classrooms on campus. The goal of the faculty and staff is to be sure that every student has access to quality education, allowing students with family or employment obligations to further their academic studies without attending a brick and mortar classroom.
