The University of Tennessee Martin is one of several campuses that make up the University of Tennessee School System. Also called UT Martin or UTM, it took over the campus of a former school when first established. That school, the Hall-Moody Institute, offered classes for elementary school students but also had classes for older students. It then served as the Hall-Moody Normal School and shifted its focus to the preparation of teachers. Though the campus briefly served as a junior college, the state stepped in and took over its operations after the school faced financial troubles and almost closed. The state established the campus as the University of Tennessee Junior College. When it added bachelor’s degree programs to its curriculum, it became the University of Tennessee Martin.
UT Martin is unique because it has a rural campus that is much quieter and more peaceful than urban or suburban campuses are. Many of its students enroll in one of its agricultural programs, and the university even maintains an experimental farms that offer different educational experiences for its students. It also ranks as one of the most environmentally responsible campuses in the country. UTM has a strong reputation in the western region of the state because of the satellite campuses it has that offer additional opportunities for students. Students can take classes in one of six cities that include Paris, Selmer, Ripley and Jackson. With an enrollment rate of more than 7,000 students, it ranks as one of the largest campuses in the UT system.

University of Tennessee Martin Application Requirements
As UT Martin offers psychology programs at both the undergrad and graduate levels, you need to follow the application requirements for the level you want to study. The undergrad application is available as a paper form that you submit by mail or as an online application that you can complete at home or school. You must send UT Martin an official high school transcript and your official ACT score, though you can also apply with an SAT score. If you receive an acceptance letter, the university will ask for a final official transcript once you graduate high school. You must also pay a $30 application fee.
The graduate application is also available online and as a paper form, and it charges the same $30 application fee. You must also supply UTM with an official transcript from your college that shows your grade point average and states that you earned a bachelor’s degree as well as an official score from the GRE or a similar graduate exam. It’s important to note that UTM can admit students to its graduate school without admitting them to a specific program. The Dean of Graduate Studies must send you a letter that shows you earned a spot in a specific program before you can begin working on your degree.
Tuition and Financial Aid
A full-time undergrad student who is also a Tennessee resident will pay around $4,200 a semester to attend UTM, which includes technology, maintenance and other fees. Nonresidents will pay around $7,100 a semester. This lets you take 12 or more credits. If you enroll on a part-time basis, you’ll pay between $240 and $593 per credit hour based on where you lived before enrolling. The aid you receive depends on you or your family’s contribution to your education, whether you are an undergrad or graduate student and the number of classes you take.
