It has regional accreditation from the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools (NCACS). NCACS accreditation is important for several reasons. This type of regional accreditation allows accepted students to complete the FAFSA and obtain financial aid. It also lets students know that they will earn a degree that means something in the real world. The Wisconsin School of Professional Psychology also has accreditation from the American Psychological Association (APA) for its clinical psychological doctoral program.

Wisconsin School of Professional Psychology Application Requirements

You must make sure that you fully understand the application requirements of those applying to the Wisconsin School of Professional Psychology before you submit your own application. The first step is the application itself. You can download a copy of the application form from the school's website. A non-degree application is available for students who want to take classes from the school to advance their careers without enrolling in a degree program. You must submit a copy of your resume as well that includes a short section on why you want to attend WSPP. The transcript that you submit must show that you maintained a grade point average of 3.0 in all your previous classes and a GPA of 3.2 or higher in all psychology courses.

WSPP also asks for an essay from prospective students. The school will give you a prompt, but you must respond in an essay of up to five pages long. Other requirements include scores from the GRE, three letters of recommendation and an application fee of $75. After going over applications, the school will often contact students to arrange for an interview. You can complete this interview over the phone or in person. You must submit your application by January 1 of the year you want to start. Depending on the number of applications received, the school may admit students who submit their applications later. As there is no guarantee that the school will have space available, it's best to complete your application by the deadline.

Tuition and Financial Aid

The Wisconsin School of Professional Psychology charges a tuition rate of a little over $800 per credit hour. The school estimates that full-time students pay around $31,000 a year. Students are also responsible for the costs of any expenses they might have, including textbooks, transportation to campus, housing, food and personal expenses. You may cover some of your costs with a paid internship that you do. More than 60% of all enrolled students receive some type of paid internship. WSPP also recommends that students apply for financial assistance and complete the FAFSA. More than 70% of its students receive student loans every year to attend the school.

Depending on where you are in your studies, you may qualify for some other financial help. The school offers scholarships to qualifying students, and you can download a copy of the scholarship application at the same time that you download the traditional application. The school also has two assistant positions and five work-study jobs available on campus. These positions pay the total cost of your tuition and may include a small stipend that helps you pay for other expenses. The school offers these positions to students who have a high grade point average and demonstrate proficiency in their chosen field of study.

Psychology and Counseling

There are two degree programs and a separate course of study available through the Wisconsin School of Professional Psychology. Its Doctor of Psychology is among its more popular choices. This program lets you choose a concentration in either adult clinical psychology or child psychology. Those who complete this program can work directly with patients and obtain a license to work in the state. The first four years you spend in this program include classroom work, some independent study and practical work. After successfully completing those four years, you will spend your last year doing an extensive internship and working with real patients.

WSPP also offers a Master of Science in Clinical Psychology for those who have a bachelor's degree from an accredited college. The college looks for students who want to finish this program and move onto a doctoral program, but the school may award some terminal degrees for those who do not want to continue their studies. After gaining some practical experience and taking all required classes, students will take an extensive examination. Only those who pass this exam will receive a degree. The college also offers a small program in forensic psychology. This program consists of just four classes, including criminal forensic psychology and introduction to forensic psychology. The Wisconsin School of Professional Psychology allows students to enroll and complete this course of study without enrolling in one of its degree programs.
