In 1988, the Oriental Mission Church met to pray about the need for a new seminary that would train missionaries, pastors and lay leaders. At the end of the meeting, a plan had been formulated for what would become World Mission Theological Seminary, which became reality in 1989.
In 1991, the school was granted the authority to offer Master of Divinity and Master of Arts degrees. In 1992, they were permitted to award Bachelor of Arts degrees by the California Department of Education. To reflect the new educational opportunities at the school, the name was changed to World Mission University in 1993.
The university moved to its current location in Koreatown, in the center of Los Angeles, in 2003. The school empowers students through transformational Biblical education, encouraging them to serve the church and impact the world for Christ.
