U.S. News & World Report ranks Marylhurst University as a best value college because it keeps tuition costs down. Its art therapy graduate program ranked among the best in the nation in three separate years. Marylhurst now offers around 50 degree programs that are open to both undergrads and graduate students. The university also created four online programs for graduate students and 12 certificate programs that are available at different levels. Marylhurst also has a dual enrollment program at two community colleges in Oregon that make it easier for students to earn their degrees after completing basic requirements at another school.

Marylhurst University Accreditation Details

Whether you want to transfer credits to another campus, or you might want to attend graduate school after finishing an undergrad degree, you should always make sure that the college you attend has regional accreditation. Marylhurst University has regional accreditation from the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities, which means that you shouldn't have any issues bringing in credits or moving credits to another campus. This type of accreditation is also important because it allows you to use the FAFSA and get financial aid from the government. Three of the programs that the university offers also have specialized accreditation. Its interior design program has accreditation from the Council for Interior Design Accreditation, and the International Assembly for Collegiate Business Education accredited its business degree program. Marylhurst also has accreditation for its music programs from the National Association of Schools of Music.

Marylhurst University Application Requirements

Marylhurst University believes that all students deserve the right to higher education, which is why it is one of the only colleges in the nation with a 100% acceptance rate. Even if you do not meet the basic admissions requirements, you can still enroll in a dual enrollment program and take classes on a community college before transferring to this campus. Undergrads must complete the online application and submit an official transcript. If you have a grade point average below 2.25, the university may request a personal essay statement or ask that you meet with an admissions counselor for an interview. Its interior design and music programs ask that prospective students submit an audition tape or a portfolio.

Graduate students must also submit an online application. Marylhurst allows you to create an account and work on that application over an extended period of time. You need to keep your user name and password handy to log back in and see if the university accepted you and/or the status of your application. Graduate students must also submit a college transcript that shows the student had a GPA of 3.0 or higher. Those enrolling in the art therapy counseling program must have a transcript that shows they took both psychology and art courses in college.

Tuition and Financial Aid

The undergrad tuition rate charged by Marylhurst University is $463 per credit hour. Certain classes may charge more, including art classes and classes with a laboratory element. Graduate courses start at $618 per credit hour, but art therapy classes cost $628 per credit hour. The university also charges a $628 per credit hour fee for the practicum that art therapy students must do. Once you have your log in information and acceptance letter, you can log into the system to see the total amount the university charged you for the upcoming semester.

Though these costs may seem high, Marylhurst is actually more affordable than other private colleges in Oregon. The university also offers payment plans and can work with on your tuition. Once you file the FAFSA, you should get a letter that serves as your financial aid package within a few weeks. As an undergrad, you'll likely receive subsidized loans and grants. Unsubsidized loans are available for graduate students as are some grants. Graduate students can also apply for private loans. Marylhurst University has some campus jobs that are open to incoming and current students also.
