Ashland Theological Seminary
As a graduate school of Ashland University, the Ashland Theological Seminary offers students looking for accredited counseling degree programs in Ohio the opportunity to explore a graduate degree within the context of Christian principles. The university does not shy away fromits strong Christian focus, and students who attend the school will experience a faith-based curriculum in conjunction with their chosen programs. While the seminary portion of Ashland University does not rank on U.S. News and World Report as a separate entity from its main undergraduate campus, graduates of the seminary reported a 90 percent overall satisfaction with their education in the school's 2011-2012 graduate student survey.
Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling
Due to its focus on religious instruction within a Christian context, Ashland Theological Seminary offers a Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling that combines the Christian faith with modern science. Students will study a theological education while exploring contemporary approaches to behavioral science. While the program centers on the Christian faith, students will learn to counsel people of diverse backgrounds over the course of 90 quarter hours. The program adheres to the standards outlined by the Ohio Counselor, Social Worker, and Marriage and Family Therapist Board. Students are expected to maintain a grade average of B- for all courses in the program. In conjunction with the required coursework, students will be expected to complete a practicum and internship which count toward on-the-job experience as well as licensure requirements. At the end of the program, students will sit for a comprehensive exam that tests knowledge of modern counseling techniques and education.
